Advent Day 23 - O Children Come

Isaiah 55:1–3 (NKJV) — 1 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price. 2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. 3 Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you— The sure mercies of David.

Once again, I would like to encourage everyone to drink deeply from good Christmas hymns. Don't just get lost in the melody, listen to the words and meditate upon them.

O Children Come, like every Christmas hymn, could be sung at anytime of the year. It is an invitation (a summons really) to come to Christ with all of our sins and burdens. Believers sometimes make the mistake of thinking that the gospel is for unbelievers only. While that is certainly true, believers must remember that the gospel is for us as well. So, if you are a believer, listen to this hymn and remember what a blessing and privilege it is to draw near the Savior. And if you are an unbeliever, come.

Hear the cry from Bethlehem
O children come
Son of God now born to men
O children come –
Bring your troubles, bring your fears,
Bring the needs that draw you near,
Find the hope of all the years –
O children come!
O children come!

Peace on earth good will to men
O children come
Righteous rule that will not end
O children come –
Lay down all your bitterness,
Turn from sin’s toil and distress,
Find His grace and perfect rest –
O children come!
O children come!

Where the Father’s grace has walked
O children come
Where you see the hurt and lost
O children come –
Show the mercy shown to you,
Gifts of kindness to renew,
Love from hearts sincere and true –
O children come!
O children come!
